Memory
Walk 2003
Saturday,
October 11, 2003
Century Center, Atlanta
Memory Walk is not just 'another walk.' It is the nation's premier fundraiser to help those battling Alzheimer's disease. Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $117 million for Alzheimer programs and services for individuals with Alzheimer's, their families, and caregivers. We encourage you to join with your friends, family, and colleagues to walk with us and to raise your voices in support of those living with Alzheimer's diseases. Memory Walk takes place in our community October 11 at TBD.
Each year thousands of people - like you - lace up their walking shoes and participate in Memory Walks across the country. Every dollar raised in your community stays in your community for care and support services for individuals and families touched by Alzheimer's disease. Please join us!

About
Our Organization
People who contribute
to nonprofit organizations have a right to know how their
money is being used and who is using it. We are proud to
report that the Alzheimer’s Association earns high marks
from those agencies whose job it is to monitor the activities
of nonprofit organizations.
Allocation of revenues
The Association is fiscally conservative in its allocation of
donor dollars. According to the National Charities Information
Bureau, nonprofit organizations should spend at least 60
percent of their budget on programs, with remaining funds
going to administrative and fund-raising expenses. At the
Alzheimer’s Association, 75 percent of revenues go to
programs, such as research, while the remaining monies pay for
management, general expenses, program improvement, and
fund-raising.
Donation options
The Alzheimer’s Association is committed to ensuring that
our donors are able to fund their areas of interest and
concern. When you make a donation to the Alzheimer's
Association, you can specify how you wish your contribution to
be used:
Research. A gift to research helps fund the search for more
effective treatments and preventions. With research grants
totaling $136 million since 1982, the Association is the
preeminent private funder of Alzheimer studies. Moreover, the
Association’s grants program is designed to attract more
scientists to the field, and at the core of the program is a
peer-review system to ensure the merit of each study. During
2002, the Association awarded grants to 82 new projects,
including a new focus area on vascular disease and its link to
Alzheimer's.
Local chapter support. A gift to local chapter support helps
fund community programs and services provided by the chapter
of your choice. As the need grows for appropriate Alzheimer
care, information, and education, so does the need for support
that will allow access to first-rate programs, services, and
information regardless of income level. Typical Alzheimer's
Association programs include support groups, helplines, and
the distribution of educational materials.
Area of greatest need. This type of gift helps us put your
dollars to use where they are needed most.
