Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation — by
Gary Gross
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was established in 1955 to assure the development of a cure and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease.
Cystic fibrosis is an aggressive genetic disease that affects approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States. One in 31 Americans (more than 10 million people) is an unknowing, symptom less carrier of the defective gene. An individual must inherit a defective copy of the cf gene, one from each parent, to have cystic fibrosis. Each time two carriers conceive a child, there is a 25% chance the child will have cf; a 50% chance the child will be a carrier; and a 25% chance the child will be a non-carrier.
In the past 2 decades, research funded by CFF has almost doubled the median survival age for people with cf from 18 years to the early 30s.
87% of funds raised goes directly back to CFF research and programs. That figure is higher than both the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
One way to raise funds for research is to have nationwide charity gala events. One of the largest and most talked about gala events is here in Atlanta, The Single Greatest Masquerade Ball
(www.singlegreatestnight.com). This year the event will be held on April 12th at the Cobb Galleria Centre from 8:00 pm - 1:00 am. It is Black-Tie & Mask optional. The gala honors some of "Atlanta's Finest". These individuals have exemplified leadership qualities, are active in charity roles, and have excelled in metro Atlanta's business community. It is an extraordinary evening filled with hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, an award presentation, dancing, and an exclusive silent auction. You can enjoy an opportunity to mix and mingle with over 1,500 of Atlanta's truly finest individuals. Individual tickets are $50 in advance or $70 at the door. Corporate tables are available for $500 and $1,000. There are numerous corporate sponsorship opportunities as well.
To nominate an "honoree", to become further involved, or to purchase tickets, please contact Julie Gilliam, Director of Special Events for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at
